On the Great Wide Open was commissioned by Meath County Council and Indaver. The commissioned was designed on the history of the area. The male figure, carved from Kilkenny Limestone, represents the movement or quarrying of the stone from one historic location to another over past times. The engravings on the monument represent the stone located within the area for thousands of years. The monument is formed from zinc which is extracted locally at the Tara mines.
The commission was openly welcomed by the local people of Navan and dedicated to those who lost their lives in the mines over the years.
